Russia builds polycarbonate device

OJSC Kazan, Russia's leading polymer producer, announced at the end of April that it is building a polycarbonate unit at a joint production company in Kazan, Tatarstan. The project uses a non-phosgene process with diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A as raw materials.

Kazan Organic Synthesis's polyethylene production accounts for 28% of Russia's production, and the newly-built annual production capacity of 65,000 tons of polycarbonate will be put into operation in June 2008.

Russia's demand for heat-resistant and high-impact polycarbonates mainly comes from the automotive, electrical and electronics, construction engineering, and home and medical fields.

Kazan Organic Synthetic is a subsidiary of Gazprom Holding Company, a subsidiary of Gazprom, and the only company in Russia that produces linear low density polyethylene.
